Some stories arrive like a letter in the rain — soaked in sorrow, sealed with love. Today’s storm letter unfolded in a forest where grief met beauty, and memory shimmered in the water. It was a story of loss, of friendship, and the quiet courage it takes to keep walking.
This daily writing ritual continues to be my way of honoring emotion through fiction. Each day, five words guide me into a new world. Today, they led me to a waterfall, a pebble, and a storm letter that broke my heart open.
Today’s Storm Letter Story Practice
Words used: Lantern, Forest, Notebook, Storm, Pebble
Her smile was small, lost in the corners of her mouth. And her blue-green eyes were filled with an unspoken storm inside her.
Stella wandered in the forest, not knowing where to go or where she was. A few minutes later, she heard a gurgling sound. Dragging her feet to the sound, she stumbled to a halt…
In front of her, there was a huge, majestic waterfall. She could easily see the trees reflected in the clean water, with red, blue, and green shining stones inside.
Sitting on the big boulder near the water, she removed her shoes. And dipped her toe in the water. The cool water brings a smile to her face. For the first time, she had felt alive.
For the past few days, she had been nothing but a cold, lifeless person- not able to feel anything.
Picking a small pebble, she hurled it into the water. The pebble skipped once, twice, and then sank into the water. The way her life sank.
She could still feel the rough edges of the notebook, the cold metal lantern pendant, and her friend’s last departure note.
“Dear Stella,
I am sorry. It has to be this way. But I couldn’t handle life anymore. The endless pain, the sleepless night, and the dependency were making me sick. Sorry for committing euthanasia. I had no other choice. Hope you will understand.
This is the book that contained our bucket list, accompanied by your favorite pendant of mine.
Hope you can forgive me one day.
Your best friend xoxo”

Here are the five words for tomorrow’s story:
🚂 Train, Market, Cloud, Mirror, Song
Let’s see what kind of storm letter these words will inspire — perhaps a train ride through memory, a market filled with echoes, a cloud that carries a secret, or a song reflected in a mirror.
