Shadow Bridge: Day Three of My Fictional Story Practice🕯️

A haunting dream unfolds in today’s Shadow Bridge story—where whispers, clocks, and a stone bridge blur the line between fear and fiction.

Some stories don’t arrive with sunlight — they emerge from the hush of night, cloaked in mystery and emotion. Today’s shadow bridge story unfolded like a dream turned thriller, guided by five evocative words: Bridge, Clock, Flower, Cupboard, Whisper. It was eerie, vivid, and strangely grounding — a reminder that even unsettling tales have a place in our creative rituals.

This daily practice continues to surprise me. Each story is a crossing — a shadow bridge between imagination and memory, fear and comfort. And even when the path is dimly lit, I’m grateful to walk it.

Today’s Shadow Bridge Story Practice

Words used: Bridge, Clock, Flower, Cupboard, Whisper

Darkness, everywhere I look, there is darkness. Someone is whispering slowly but with great speed- an unknown language. A chill passes through my small frame.

Extending my hands forward, I try to feel and touch if anything is in front of me. The gravel sound under my shoes and the eerie silence are making my blood run cold with fear.

A sudden ding made me jump out of my skin, lose my balance, and stumble on the ground. “It is the clock’s sound, clock…” I try to reason with myself.

Feeling the ground once again, I try to stand up with my noodle-like legs. Moving forward, suddenly a sweet smell filled my nostrils. “It is honeysuckles and lilacs. So, I am in Central Park. If I am correct within a few steps, there will be a bridge.”

Bracing myself, I took a few steps ahead, and my hand touched something cool and hard. Sighing with relief, “It is a stone bridge.” I take my first step, then second, slowly I reach the top, and…

I am flying through the air, with a loud splash, my shirt is wet, my neck, face, and hair…I am drowning. Trying to fail my arms, to go to the top, all my efforts are in vain; I am going deeper and deeper.

Spurting for air, I wake up and wheeze for air. My eyes widen as I look around and find myself in my own room, my pictures, cupboard, and there on my bedside table sat the mystery murder novel which I started reading yesterday.

Tomorrow’s Shadow Bridge Challenge

Here are the five words for tomorrow’s story:
🕯️ Candle, Mirror, Letter, Rain, Shadow
What kind of shadow bridge will these words lead us across? Perhaps a flickering candle in a storm, a mirror that remembers, or a letter that never arrived…
