Daily Fiction Practice: A Gentle Nature Escape

Daily fiction writing practice that includes nature escape.

Five Words: Dream, Train, Key, Shadow, Garden

It’s been a year since I last wrote stories regularly, and I’ve missed it deeply. To rebuild my writing habit, I’ve started a daily fiction practice—a gentle way to reconnect with creativity through small, sensory stories. Each day, I take five random words and turn them into a short tale. Today’s story is a quiet nature escape, where stillness and scent replace noise and motion.

Today’s Nature Escape Story

Train journeys are tiresome. It requires sitting in a straight position, especially the constant movement of the train makes me dizzy and nauseous.

Looking out of the window, the city is slowly disappearing. The tall buildings are replaced by endless sky, vast green lands, and jumping lambs. The sky is deep orange with shadows of yellow.

Reaching at my new home, my eyes start closing. Lying down, it feels like I am back in the train, my brain, uh…it makes it hard to sleep. But soon my exhaustion overpowers, and I sleep a dreamless sleep.

My eyes open, and I focus on my surroundings. It is still dark outside, but I am feeling energetic. Then I heard the sound that woke me up. The birds are chirping, meeting each other.

Getting up, I move towards the window and open it. The cold air rushes inside with the sweet smell of gardenias. Everything is silent, except the chirping of birds. No people shouting at each other, no foul smell of garbage. Just nature, and its beauty.

I can already feel tension leaving my body, slowly. This is the key to my happiness- nature. Maybe my decision to move away from the city isn’t bad at all.

Why I’m Practicing Daily Fiction Through Nature Escape

This story is part of my daily fiction ritual—a way to gently return to writing through quiet scenes and soft reflections. Today’s nature escape reminded me how healing it is to trade noise for birdsong, and concrete for gardenias. I know there are spelling and grammar mistakes, but that’s okay. This practice is about progress, not perfection.
