Creative Recovery: What I’ve Been Working On

1–2 minutes
Creative recovery while recovering from illness.

Lately, I’ve been gently returning to one of my favorite creative habits—writing fictional stories. This return feels like a form of Creative Recovery, where imagination and healing walk side by side. I’ve started a small practice using just five words to spark new ideas. These tiny word seeds help me grow stories and explore my inner world. I’m not writing daily yet, but I’ve been able to show up twice a week. That feels like a good beginning. I’m not rushing. I trust that with time, the rhythm will grow.

Creative Recovery Through Rest

I’m also focusing on rest. I’ve been healing from post-viral arthritis, which makes my body feel tired and achy. So I’m learning to listen to myself and take things slow. Some days are softer than others, and I’m practicing kindness on the harder ones. Rest is part of my Creative Recovery now, and I’m learning that slowing down doesn’t mean I’m falling behind.

Balancing Healing and Creativity

Balancing creativity and healing isn’t always easy, but I’m doing my best. Writing short stories with just five words helps me stay connected to my imagination without pressure. It’s a small but meaningful step. I remind myself: progress doesn’t have to be fast to be real. Every gentle effort counts. This is what Creative Recovery looks like—soft, steady, and full of grace.

Looking Ahead with Creative Recovery

As I continue to heal, I hope to write more often. But for now, I’m proud of the small steps I’m taking. Even in slow seasons, creativity can bloom—and that’s worth celebrating.
