To be honest, I am not someone who loves traveling all the time. I enjoy staying at home, reading a good book, and finding peace in my own space. But whenever I do plan a trip, there is one rule I always follow: Off-Season Travel. It may not sound exciting at first, but it has saved me money, stress, and a lot of unnecessary crowds over the years.
Why I Choose Off-Season Travel
Most people plan their vacations during summer breaks, public holidays, Christmas, or festivals. While that works for many travelers, I prefer avoiding those busy times. Popular destinations become crowded, and it becomes difficult to truly enjoy the place you are visiting.
When there are too many tourists, long queues become normal, restaurants are packed, and attractions feel rushed. Instead of relaxing, you spend much of your time waiting. Traveling during quieter months gives you more space to explore at your own pace and enjoy peaceful moments.
Save Money and Travel Smarter
Another reason I stand by this advice is the cost. During peak travel seasons, airline tickets, hotels, and even restaurant meals become much more expensive. You often end up paying extra simply because everyone else is traveling at the same time.
Choosing Off-Season Travel usually means finding better deals and spending less money. That extra savings can be used for another trip, a hobby, or something special you have wanted to buy.
Of course, there are exceptions. Some experiences, like seeing cherry blossoms or the aurora, require visiting during specific seasons. Even then, I would still try to avoid the busiest holiday periods whenever possible.
My dad has always followed this travel rule. When I was younger, I disliked spending Christmas at home while others were away on trips. Today, I understand the wisdom behind it. Avoiding crowds and saving money is a winning combination.
