Hello, readers!
Welcome back to another Thursday blog. Today, I want to talk about Lost Relationships—something almost all of us experience at some point in life. Whether it is people, animals, or even plants, saying goodbye is never easy.
Every Person Has a Place in Our Story
Throughout our lives, we meet many different people.
Some stay with us for years, while others are only with us for a short time. Every person teaches us something before they leave. Lost Relationships may bring sadness, but they also leave behind memories, lessons, and moments that shape who we become.
And it is not only people. Sometimes we lose animals we love. Sometimes even our plants become a part of our lives and leave us too.
Recently, I lost two of my plants. I tried my best to save them, but I couldn’t. Their loss reminded me of something from my childhood. I once tried very hard to save a friendship. I wanted things to stay the same, but my friend grew closer to someone else, and our friendship slowly faded away.
Every relationship, no matter how small, leaves a memory behind.
Lost Relationships Teach Us to Let Go
As a child, I couldn’t understand why that friendship ended. I thought if I tried hard enough, I could keep it.
Now, looking back, I feel that Lost Relationships are painful, but they also teach us acceptance. Not everything is meant to stay forever, and that is one of life’s hardest lessons.
Sometimes, I wonder if certain relationships come into our lives with an expiration date. Maybe they are meant to stay only until they teach us what we need to learn. I don’t know if that is true, but it is a thought that often crosses my mind.
What do you think?
Lost Relationships Are Like Sand
Sometimes, I think relationships are like sand.
The tighter we close our fist, the more the sand slips through our fingers.
The more we try to control someone or hold on too tightly, the harder it becomes to keep them close.
Maybe that is why some relationships naturally change, while others quietly come to an end. It does not always mean we failed. Sometimes, people simply continue on different paths, carrying the memories they made with us.
Cherish the Time You Have
Whether or not relationships have an expiration date, one thing is certain—we never truly know how long someone will be a part of our lives.
Instead of taking people for granted, let’s appreciate them while they are still with us.
Tell them they matter.
Spend time with them.
Show them that you choose them.
Life is uncertain. People change. Friends move away. Families grow older. Animals and plants also have their own seasons.
We cannot stop everything from changing, but we can make sure the people, animals, and even plants in our lives feel cared for while they are here. Even when Lost Relationships become a part of our story, the love, kindness, and memories we shared remain with us.
Sometimes, that is the most beautiful gift we can give.
If you’d like to explore another perspective on building meaningful relationships, I recommend reading “Loving Ourselves and Loving Others” by Karen Strang Allen. It offers thoughtful insights into how caring for ourselves helps us build healthier and more meaningful connections with others.
