Tunnel Treasure is the story of finding treasure.

Some stories arrive like a whisper in the rain — mysterious, playful, and full of heart. Today’s Tunnel Treasure unfolded in raincoats and lilacs, with a candle marking the way to a tin car buried beneath soft mud. It was a story of trust, adventure, and the joy of becoming children again.

This daily writing ritual continues to be my way of honoring emotion through fiction. Each day, five words guide me into a new world. Today, they led me to a tunnel, a candle, and a message that simply said, “Please find me.” What we found was more than a toy — it was a Tunnel Treasure of memory and magic.

Today’s Tunnel Treasure Story Practice

“Stella, I found a letter and a map in this book.”  Amy comes running to me with a small white square tissue.

“Ams, it is not a letter, just a tissue paper,” waving at the tissue, I reply.

Jumping on her toes, she shoves the paper in my face, “Look…”

On the paper, in a neatly scribbled handwriting, a message is written, “Please find me.” On the back, there is a small map.

“Oh, it is on the other side of the tunnel,” I replied.

“Yes, yes, can we go, Stella?” She folds her hands, a small, tiny and hopeful smile.

Looking outside, the sky is obscured with clouds. At any moment, it can rain. Before I could answer, Amy brought two raincoats, two rain boots, and a shovel.

Without talking, we quickly put on our raincoats and head to the tunnel. Getting outside, we are transported to another world. Just like Narniyan – we step into greenery, with tall trees, sweet, tender and fresh smell of lilacs.

On the map, there is a small candle. We start with a mutual agreement.

“I don’t see anything, Stella!” Amy whined pitifully.

“We have to look, Ams. I think it might be somewhere here.” Turning around, I try to search.

“Stella…” Amy screams loudly, making me jump and whirl around. She is pointing between the trees. “Candle…”

Squinting my eyes, I can finally see the faint outline.

Skipping she makes her way under the candle. Places her shovel on the ground, and presses the shovel in sand. Bending down, I use my hand to scrape the soft, cool mud aside.

A loud ping resonates when her shovel meets the metal box. Pulling the metal box outside, we try to remove the mud sticking to it.

The hinges are broken. Removing the lid slowly, we both awed as we saw a small, tiny tin car inside.

Even though it is not an actual treasure, it made us children again.

Tomorrow’s Tunnel Treasure Challenge

Here are the five words for tomorrow’s story:
🕯️ Lantern, Whisper, Bridge, Feather, Clock
Let’s see what kind of Tunnel Treasure these words will inspire — perhaps a lantern glowing on a bridge, a whisper carried by a feather, or a clock ticking toward something magical.
